The Why of Suicide & The How of Hope - David Woody Bartley | TSPS 133

The Why of Suicide & The How of Hope - David Woody Bartley | TSPS 133

October 5, 2021

Part of waking up the world is sharing the power of positivity; another part of waking up the world is sharing the power of the unseen.
Can you see “connection?” Can you see “curiosity?” What if connection and curiosity could save a life . . . ?

As a mental health speaker, educator, and trainer, David Woods Bartley has seen his fair share of successes and setbacks, from directing a nationally-recognized nonprofit to battling a life-threatening mental illness. It was the latter, a brutal knock-down, drag-out fight with clinical depression that led David to a suicide attempt.

Thanks to the life-saving support of a great many people and being shown the necessity of putting one’s self-care on a pedestal, David continues the
important yet still challenging journey from the isolation of mental “hellness” to the inclusive space of mental wellness.

David’s gift to you: 3 Simple Ways to move others from Isolation to Connection.

How to Reclaim Your Personal Power - Jackie Simmons | TSPS 131

How to Reclaim Your Personal Power - Jackie Simmons | TSPS 131

September 16, 2021

We're going to visit a little town. Actually, it's a huge metropolis, but it looks like a little ‘burb that you don't want to live in. The town is called "Shouldville."

Shouldville is a dark, dank place where lives get lived, and dreams go to die. Shouldville is where you go when you “should on” yourself. You might be living in Shouldville if you’ve ever heard yourself say (or think): “I shouldn't have said that.” “I should be further along in my career by now.” “I should be slimmer, faster, braver, wealthier, etc..”

The roads into Shouldville are many. The paths out of Shouldville are easy. Join me as we walk the paths out of Shouldville and into your personal power.

TEDx speaker, Radio Show Host, International Best-selling Author, Mindset Magician, Director and co-founder of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, Jackie Simmons is best known for her mission to “Break the Silence on Suicide.” Blindsided by her 14-year-old daughter’s suicide attempt in 1995, Jackie entered a world of depression, addictions, medical mysteries, and deadly silences. The journey into the world of mental health services and cultural taboos left Jackie feeling lost and alone. “OK” on the outside, Jackie hid her deep, psychic wounds behind a façade of frantic entrepreneurial activity. Then on August 3, 2019, Jackie’s now 37-year-old daughter broke the silence. Jackie wasn’t ready. She calls August 3, 2019, the day her “purpose tapped her on the shoulder.” You can learn more ways to break the silence and stop teen suicide by watching: "Have 'The Talk' to Stop Teen Suicide" on the TEDx YouTube channel, at the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, and on The Suicide Prevention Show summit .

You Don’t Have to be a Prisoner - Rocky Singh Kandola | TSPS 127

September 2, 2021

We're about to go into a place that many people have never contemplated. Thank goodness, because we're going to go behind bars and into what really creates prisoners. Let’s start with what’s the definition of a prisoner? What's the definition of a jail? What if not all jails have bars?

Rocky is a 35 year old successful Indian businessman born in New York City and living in Los Angeles. Rocky now owns and runs a showroom in a high traffic area of downtown near LA Live. Rocky also recently upgraded to Beverly Hills.

Rocky is a felon as well as a Philosophy Graduate (both) from the state of Alabama. He spent “high school” life in 9 different facilities, schools, and boot camps across the world, some of which are now closed due to severe child abuse, rape, and torture.

Yes, Rocky almost died at least 7 times inside the facilities that were supposed to keep him safe.

Half of Rocky’s face and jaw are fake from a murder attempt. He’s been shot at, stabbed, kidnapped, and kicked in the face. Rocky has had 20 major surgeries.

Rocky’s “been hurt, hurt others, and seen hurt up close.”

Rocky’s also been loved, loved others, and seen love up close.

Rocky now has amazing friends and family in almost every continent in the world. His business allows him to travel freely and meet amazing souls across our planet.

Rocky speaks 4 languages and can hold a conversation with any man, woman, or child in the world.

Despite it all, Rocky follows his heart and without thinking twice lets down his guard with new loving people around the world.

Rocky grows his business and helps others daily.

Rocky works hard and plays hard. He’s grown and learned so much from life that now he wishes to help others, who wish to do something more with their lives. Rocky is passionate to bring peace, courage, and understanding to the many people who share his background of pain and abuse, and to those who can benefit from its story.

It’s Not About Race it’s about Relationships - Leon Thomas | TSPS 121

August 12, 2021

We're going to go where people in polite society don't go. We're going to talk about the “R” word. We're going to talk about relationships. And we're going to do it from the viewpoint of what is so challenging in our world right now. The other “R” word, the one the media bandies about and that’s being played like a trump card on many fronts, from boardrooms to courtrooms. From the man who tells it like it is, we’re going to tackle the cure for racism.

Leon Thomas is President of Leon Thomas & Associates. His company’s most popular services are race relations training and virtual event hosting, directing and producing. He began his 35-year hospitality career as a line-level employee and advanced through the ranks to hold many management positions in the hotel business. Ultimately, he would become a member of an ownership group.

Before founding Leon Thomas & Associates, Leon served in various capacities with several hotel brands and management companies. His many years of success along with his fun and energetic presentation style garnished him a reputation as a popular speaker at industry meetings and conventions.

Telling Your Story Might Save Your Life - Becky Norwood | TSPS 119

August 5, 2021

Not preaching and not teaching, just talking. This time it’s all about you and your story. Becky's company published the first book of the mission to make teen suicide a thing of the past. I cannot thank her enough. And now she’s here to share how the power of your story can heal the world and you.

Gift: The Four Pillars of Stories Well Told

Link: https://www.spotlightpublishing.pro/4-pillars

When we have used writing as a tool for healing, it is often the stories that develop from our writing that is the very thing that would give fresh perspective and a knowingness that they are NOT alone. When we understand the power of story, and understand that our stories matter, we increase our own self-worth and confidence.

Your Life Matters - Junie Swadron | TSPS 118

Your Life Matters - Junie Swadron | TSPS 118

August 2, 2021

Before you can save anyone else in this life, you have to know how to save yourself. That's the message Junie Swadron had to learn.
It sounds simple and obvious right?

Yet we seem to be pre-programmed to help everyone else first. It’s as if our instincts are the opposite. (Isn’t that why every airline reminds us of the need to put our own oxygen mask on first?)

What if saving your own life really could be as simple as changing one belief.

Enjoy this journey into the belief-shifting, life-saving world of Junie Swadron.

Junie Swadron is an author, playwright, psychotherapist, international speaker, workshop facilitator, and professional writing coach who has spent the last thirty years guiding thousands of students in writing and sharing their life stories.

She sees the therapeutic process and the creative process as one. “It is about accessing a special place within us where serenity, love, courage, and truth reside. It is from this place that we begin to know our true spirit. It is from this place we begin to heal.”

What makes Junie’s approach to healing extraordinary is that she knows both sides of the couch. She was diagnosed with manic-depressive illness at age twenty and lived with its challenges for many years. On her own healing journey, Junie found writing to be her greatest ally.

Junie’s journey to the other side of her illness taught her resiliency and coping strategies by giving her “opportunities to choose” health and wellness again and again.

Junie now shares her success strategies with her clients and students, helping them connect to their creativity and healing.

Junie resides in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada with her partner, David Michael Halliwell, an artist and musician. They are currently co-creating a musical called “Transformation.”

Emotional Intelligence for Work/Life Balance - Elissa Watson | TSPS 117

July 29, 2021

Emotional Intelligence took the work world by storm and then once the storm was over . . . it left behind a new acronym “EQ - Emotional Quotient” and outside of the EQ community, not much seemed to change.

It all sounded good, and theoretical. After all, what’s Emotional Intelligence good for?

To answer that question we’re going to dive into the world of work/life balance and the “EQ path” to keeping life in perspective with Elissa Watson.

Elissa Watson’s life is a balancing act. She lives in Detroit with her husband, John, her 3 teenage boys, and John’s son, who’s also a teen.

Balancing the schedules of her 5 guys and her business led Elissa to develop a unique management system that she now teaches in a fast-paced 4-week course.

Becoming Bully-Proof - Malcolm Grissom | TSPS 116

Becoming Bully-Proof - Malcolm Grissom | TSPS 116

July 26, 2021

Bullying is one of those topics that people really don't like to talk about. Everybody knows it happens and it seems that no one really knows what to do to stop it.

It seems that we don't know enough about it. So Malcolm Grissom is here to help us become bully-proof, so that we don't have to be afraid of it.

Malcolm Grissom’s life started in the back seat of a sports car in front of his entire neighborhood. (Yes, he was born with an audience) So, it’s no surprise that Malcom has spent most of his life onstage.

Malcolm brings his years of experience as an actor, comedian, storyteller, performance coach, and career counselor to every performance.

Fascinated with mastering the art of connecting with an audience, Malcolm studied all aspects of interpersonal communication.

He had to. At 9, due to a medical complication from the flu, Malcolm lost his ability to both walk and talk.

Overcoming and reconnecting his brain to his body gave Malcolm a unique perspective on leadership and what it takes to control the “inner-bully” so that you can communicate effectively with the normal ones who love to pick on anyone who’s “different.”

Malcolm’s mission in life is to share the skills he’s acquired from the stage and from his career with California’s Employment Development Department. His gift to the world is an artistic production and communications coaching company, Aloha Storytelling.

Primary Food: It’s Not What You Put In Your Mouth - Dr. Margaret Evanow | The Suicide Prevention Show 115

Primary Food: It’s Not What You Put In Your Mouth - Dr. Margaret Evanow | The Suicide Prevention Show 115

July 22, 2021

Have you ever met someone and instantly felt that you’ve known them forever even though you just met? That was my experience with Margaret Evanow, resident expert on “primary food.”

Primary food is not the kind that you put in your mouth. It’s the kind that feeds your soul.

The challenge of our age is the relentless pounding on our sensibilities. We all know that “junk food” is well, junk! Yet we’re programmed repeatedly to think of it when we’re hungry.

The same is true for our brains. Our brains crave new and novel information, yet it’s scientifically proven that we mentally “eat” the same information, think the same thoughts, every day, over and over again.

Attempting to create something new in our lives without addressing this truth is like deciding to lose weight by adding salad to our existing eating habits . . .

The solution is to reprogram our minds and to help up do that, I’m interviewing my friend, the good Dr. Margaret Evanow.

Dr. Margaret Evanow has over 30 years of experience in mental health and personal development.  Understanding the human condition and what makes transformational growth possible under seemingly insurmountable life circumstances has led her to a unique hybrid of Quantum Psychology, blending positive psychology, quantum physics, human potential, and the power of the human spirit.

Dr. Evanow connects people to their own YouNiversal Pathways of growth, becoming, and believing.  Reprogramming Humanity from limiting and self-injurious beliefs to more life-giving abundant visions of self and world is the lifework legacy of Dr. Margaret Evanow.

How to Lift Yourself Up from Victimhood at Any Age - Angela Legh | Suicide Prevention Show 114

How to Lift Yourself Up from Victimhood at Any Age - Angela Legh | Suicide Prevention Show 114

July 19, 2021

These days people talk about “‘hoods” and neighborhoods in ways we didn't talk about them when I was raising my kids. Back then, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. These days the discussions about “hoods” can be somewhat dark.
The “‘hood” that we're talking about today, is the neighborhood known as “victimhood”. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a guided tour OUT of Victimhood?
We’re blessed to have the best possible guide. Get ready to leave victimhood behind once and for all.

Angela Legh grew up with “an alcoholic father and an angelic mother.”
Her family home burned down when she was six and Angela was sent to foster care for a few months. Being “ripped out of my family,” Angela believed that she didn’t deserve love.

Marrying an older man; things were good for a while. But over time her husband began pulling her down with his words. His criticism couched in “helpful” terms, but the message remained, “I don’t deserve love.”

After more than 30 years, another fire pushed Angela out of home.

The Tubbs fire of 2017 destroyed her community and their family home.

Stripped of everything except the relationship, left Angela facing the stark reality. With nothing left to distract her from the harsh truth of the abusive nature of her marriage, Angela pulled together the remaining shreds of her self-esteem and began a path of self-healing.

It started with writing her story. Her intent was to help others find the strength to walk their own paths to self-acceptance, forgiveness, and healing.

The writing “woke up” something creative inside Angela.  Angela’s current project is a series of children’s books to help them never need a “fire” to learn to love and accept themselves.

Angela Legh has a book for all children - a fairytale for the current age.
Get it for your "kid" for free.
