Welcome to the world according to Jackie Simmons, I'm Jackie Simmons, and I am your host for this session on Emotional Teflon. How to Stay Positive in an Emotionally Negative world? And yeah, all right, the elephant in the room. We live in a flippin negative world, there is no problem with that. Pardon me, once you understand that we live in a negative world because our brain has a natural negative bias. Everyone's brain has a natural negative bias. So here's the deal.
About Our Guest: TEDx speaker, Radio Show Host, International Best-selling Author, Emotional Resilience Grand Master Trainer, and co-founder of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, Jackie Simmons is best known for her mission to “Wake Up The World.”
Blindsided by her 14-year-old daughter’s suicide attempt in 1995, Jackie entered a world of depression, addictions, medical mysteries, and deadly silences.
The journey into the world of mental health services and cultural taboos left Jackie feeling lost and alone.
“OK” on the outside, Jackie hid her deep, psychic wounds from the world behind a façade of frantic entrepreneurial activity.
Then on August 3, 2019, Jackie’s now 37-year-old daughter, broke the silence. Jackie wasn’t ready. She calls August 3, 2019 the day her “purpose tapped her on the shoulder.”
Please join Jackie on her mission to make teen suicide a thing of the past. Join the Teen Suicide Prevention Society. You never know whose life you might save.

And there are two conversations that go on in my head. Now when I see the word mask, actually, there are three to explore all three of these conversations and peel back so that we can have honest communication with our kids. What You Know About ADD & Dyslexia is Wrong - Carol Vincie | TSPS 152
Monday Dec 20, 2021
Monday Dec 20, 2021
When it comes to ADD - attention deficit disorder - I've read a lot of books. I thought they were describing my youngest daughter, that they had been following her around. Then I shared those books with my guy. He was surprised and asked if they were following him around, because he was the kid who was running up and down the halls and delivering the principal's messages to the teachers because they couldn't keep him in his seat. And then my sister said, Jackie, you know, they finally figured out why I struggled so much growing up. They told me that I actually have dyslexia. Now I can learn some things that are going to help me navigate the world. I thought that those comments were amazing: that all of those tools help people navigate the world. But then I met Carol Vincie; and she has convinced me that everything that I knew about ADHD and dyslexia wasn't true! So here she is to explain that and to help us all find out what is the truth about these two labels.
Carol had a very successful corporate career in the fact-paced, challenging, high-growth information technology field. In addition to her typical 60-hour work weeks, she managed these demands of a series of personal entrepreneurial ventures. Her ability to understand processes enabled her to navigate multiple industries including brokerage, banking, insurance, health care, and engineering to name a few. In her corporate roles, she was the contact person who passed the clients' business demands for products along to the engineering and programming staff for implementation. Carol's strengths include out-of-the-box thinking, critical listening, unique solutions, and candid feedback. These skills, combined with her trailblazing leadership, make her the person you and your team need if you want to accelerate your growth. She has worked in the venture capital arena building teams and making connections with investors and main street businesses to build teams for stability and growth.

No Such Thing as a Bully - Kelly Karius | TSPS 151
Thursday Dec 16, 2021
Thursday Dec 16, 2021
When I asked people to tell me what they thought was behind the rise in suicide rates, I got three answers: screens - everybody being together, but on different devices. That was number one. Number two was a sense of isolation. Number three, and as soon as it came out of their mouths, we knew that this was actually number one. And it was bullying. Everyone I've spoken to has a bully story. And yet, according to our next guest, there's no such thing as a bully.
Kelly Karius is an award winning social worker, mediator, author and the creator of The No Such Thing as a Bully System. Kelly is an expert at quickly finding the root of problems, reframing and redefining to give you another way of looking at your situation, and new tools to stay calm and peaceful within it. Kelly is highly skilled at showing people that they can reclaim their personal power and change their relationship with themselves and with others.

~Day 3: Changing Thoughts - Positive thinking or balanced thinking? Let's see which is the one for you. Maybe both.

What To Do When Your Business Coach Is A Bully - Katie Miller | TSPS 148
Monday Dec 06, 2021
Monday Dec 06, 2021
Jackie has been told that she can go places that angels fear to tread. So she is going to go ahead and name the elephant in the room, actually the bully in the room. Jackie is going to do this in the bravest way she can think of and interview her eldest daughter, Katie.
We are going to go with this concept of what do you do when your business coach is a bully. So this is really a subject near and dear to Jackie’s heart. So, from Katie’s point of view, what do you do when your business coach is a bully?
Katie Miller is the eldest daughter of Jackie and one of the co-founders of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society. When her sister broke the silence of her suicide attempts, Katie was surprised that she only had vague memories of the initial attempt and no recollection of any others. What she does recall is something different. Katie recalls how hard, or impossible, it was to talk to her parents or her friends' parents about “the hard stuff” and what was going on. When Katie became a mom herself, she knew things were going to be different. Katie had one main rule when it came to her son: he could talk to her about anything without judgement or fear of consequences. Now he is a teenager, and this “judgement free” house is something his friends are grateful for.
